Professor (Dr) Sharan Choudhri, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncology possesses a wealth of knowledge and clinical experience accumulated in a career spanning over three decades in the Army Medical Corps. He established the first Malignant Diseases Treatment Centre for the Indian Air Force at Command Hospital Bangalore and Oncology Centre at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt. He rose to appointment of Senior Advisor Surgical Oncology to the entire Indian Armed Forces. His appointments include Professor Surgical Oncology, Army Hospital (R & R) Delhi Cantt, Chief of Surgery, Base Hospital & Army College of Medical Sciences Delhi Cantt and Research Pool Officer, Office of Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, India. He is a Guide for MS (Surgery) and DNB (Surgical Oncology) in several Universities. In addition he was visiting Research Fellow, Kurume University, Japan. He is an alumnus of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He was trained in Surgical Oncology at Malignant Diseases Treatment Centre, INHS Asvini (premier Naval Command Hospital) & Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Subsequently he did Fellowship in Esophageal Surgery at Kurume Medical University, Japan and in Hepato-Biliary Surgery at Shimane Medical University, Japan & MSKCC, New York, USA. He also went to Michigan State University, USA for Sentinel Lymph Node Technique (aimed to minimize surgical morbidity in cancer surgery). He has received many awards both International and National. They include UICC-ICRETT Fellowship Award twice – to Kurume Medical University, Japan and Michigan State University, USA. He also received "Young Investigators Award" at 3rd International Sentinel Node Congress at Yokohama, Japan where Presentation on "Promise & Pitfalls of Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Oral Malignancies" was selected for Outstanding Scientific Merit, Innovation and Educational Value. He was awarded Air Vice Marshal Shrinagesh Memorial Medal for standing First in Surgery at AFMC, Pune and won Prizes at "Onco-Quiz" at National Conferences of IASO on several occasions. He was Sectional Editor, Indian Journal of Surgery, member of Armed Forces Oncology Group and member, Executive Committee of Indian Association of Surgical Oncology. His areas of special interest include Breast, Thyroid, Head & Neck and Esophageal cancers, Gastro-Intestinal and Genito-urinary malignancies
